Welcome to the Nuffield Sailing & Watersports Centre
The Nuffield Sailing & Watersports Centre at the Joint Service Mountain Training Centre Indefatigable provides sailing and watersports activities for serving military personnel, their families and visiting military units.
Our very own RYA accredited Sail Centre is situated on the banks of the Menai Strait, just a short walk from the accommodation wing. We offer courses and taster sessions in sailing and powerboating for adults as well as children. We also offer taster sessions in Stand-Up Paddle Boarding and Kayaking (Sit-on tops) – great fun for families and popular with military units for team building and decompression.
We can arrange with you a course or taster session on dates to suit yourself (subject to availability of instructors and minimum number of students required). Our fully qualified and experienced Instructors can deliver courses and taster sessions to both groups and families.

Personal Sailing Coaching
FAMILY & GROUP SAILING COURSES
What better way to take advantage of our superb facility, learning to sail or improve your skills on one of our dedicated sailing courses, suitable for families and small groups of up to 6 persons (children must be aged 8 and over).
We provide 2, 3 and 5 day RYA Certified Sailing courses, which can be arranged directly with the Nuffield Centre Office. Please contact the Nuffield Office, via email or telephone, for more details.
RYA POWERBOAT COURSES
We run RYA Powerboat Level 1 & 2 and Safety Boat courses throughout the year. All Powerboat courses are run subject to demand. Please contact us via email or telephone and we can arrange a course on dates to suit you. Courses will only run if there are 2 – 3 people booked.
Children must be aged 8 and over for Powerboat Level 1 and accompanied by an adult

RYA Safety Boat eligibility – must hold RYA Level 2 Powerboat certificate. Minimum age is 16 and over. 16 – 18 year olds must be accompanied by an adult
Sailing and Watersports Taster Sessions
Our Taster Sessions are a great opportunity to spend a few hours on the water from our Sailing Centre. Beginners and the more experienced are given the chance to learn new skills or improve on existing skills in a fun and safe environment, whilst learning about the local area and it’s history. All equipment, PPE and instruction are included.
Our Taster Sessions are either a half day or a full day. On a full day’s session you can experience multiple activities including Stand-up Paddle Boarding (SUP), Kayaking (sit on top) or Sailing.

NUFFIELD SAILING CENTRE REFUND POLICY
Should the booking be affected due to adverse weather conditions, we will make every effort to make alternative arrangements with you whilst you are here.
Please note this may be constrained by the availability of our instructors and your own plans. In the unlikely event that we do have to cancel your booking, we will give you a complete refund or make every effort to provide suitable alternative dates suitable to you.
Where you have cause to cancel your booking, the following cancellation policy will apply:
- Greater than 4 weeks’ notice – full refund
- 4 to 2 weeks’ notice attracts a 50% refund*
- Less than 2 weeks = no refund*
- You should have adequate travel insurance to cover any “last minute” cancellations
*Refunds for cancellations due to operational issues will only be given on receipt of a written report from the Unit Commanding Officer.
